Known as Europe’s most powerful hot spring, Deildartunguhver is located in West Iceland. With the flow of 180 liters of hot water per second, this hot spring gets the attention of visitors around the world. The water flowing at the temperature of 97°C is used to heat the nearby cities of Akranes and Borganes. All the water in the range of 65 km reaches from this thermal spring. So if you take shower at any place within the range of 65 kilometers, you will experience the hot water of Deildartunguhver powerful spring. The piping hot water comes out of a rocky outcrop covered with algae, creating a steamy surface above the base. Reaching Deildartunguhver Spring

Deildartunguhver is located at a distance of around 100 kilometers North from Reykjavik, the capital city of Iceland. It is situated near the village of Kleppjarnsreykir, west of Reykholt. If you are starting from Reykjavik, follow the Route Number 1 to drive through the towering Mt. Esja and under-sea tunnel of Hvalfjörður. When you are about to pass the bridge to Borgarnes, take a right turn towards Borgarfjörður valley. Drive on Road 50 until you see the signboard of Deildartunguhver. Traveling from Reykjavik to this thermal hot spring takes around one and a half hours.

We recommend that you visit the town of Reykholt. Reykholt was home to Snorri Sturluson, Iceland’s well known historian. There are many restaurants and hotels around this hot spring that offer excellent food and other services.
