Explore the Crystal Ice Cave & Hunt for The Northern Lights

Extreme geological contrasts, majestic lava fields dominated by the incredible volcanic rock, magnificent panoramic views and staggering waterfalls and all this at one place. Yes, Iceland has always been one of the most popular tourist destinations and acts as a magnet for the travel enthusiasts, environmentalist and the globetrotters. There are numerous places to visit, but the best thing you can witness while in Iceland includes the Crystal Ice Cave in combination with the Northern Lights. So, lets hop on this breathtaking Ice Cave and Northern Lights Tour that includes your visit to the Glacier Lagoon, Diamond Ice-beach, visit to natural Ice cave, Seljalandsfoss and witnessing the Northern Lights.

Make Your Way to the Crystal Ice Caves

See the best of Iceland by visiting the sparkling crystal Ice caves. The complete tour will take around 14 – 16 hours and will start with an early morning pick up and driving towards the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon while enjoying the highlights of south coast. Here you will witness the most beautiful and overwhelming creations of nature – the floating and flipping icebergs in the lagoon. If you are fortunate enough, you might end up watching the seals too.  Now moving to the other side of the Highway 1, while walking down to the Diamond Beach, you will have a unique experience of watching icebergs on the black sand beach of Breiðamerkursandur. Now, soon after this, we will drive towards the natural built ice cave. With all the safety gear and lights, enter the caves and explore the majestic views that are sure to make your jaw drop. The ice caves generally melt and form again, so you might get to experience a newly formed crystal ice cave on your visit.

Jaw-Dropping Views of Aurora Borealis

Let the hunt for Aurora start! Soon after you have experienced the caves, now is the time for the final scheduled stop Seljalandsfoss waterfall where the search for the Northern Lights or the dancing lights begins. This waterfall can be captured into exceptional photos of the Aurora Borealis during winters when it is completely lit up. It is indeed a perfect example of art and science coexisting to present the most gorgeous sights. The majestic ribbons of white, green, or red flutters in the sky with variating shapes that look amazing against the black sky. Additionally, do not forget to carry all the essential things along with you including some snacks, warm, waterproof outdoor clothes, and hiking shoes to be extra sure of your safety. Make sure you are dressed in layers as the temperature can be really low.

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

The pick up for the tour starts at 7.30 in Reykjavik.

If conditions don’t allow for an ice cave visit there will be a partial refund in the amount of 10.000.- ISK.

We encourage bringing hiking boots for glacier tours. They have to hard on the sole and tight around the ankle.

Weather in Iceland is very unpredictable. For tours during winter: warm clothing as first layer, waterproof jacket with a hoodie, hiking boots with ankle protection and hard sole, a hat and gloves are ideal. For tours during summer, bringing a light rain jacket or a soft shell with a hoodie is in most cases enough protection. Icelanders often say, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait 5 minutes”. Jeans are not recommended for the tour as they become very heavy, cold and uncomfortable to wear when they get wet.

It rains a lot in Iceland, but we do not let rain stop us from going out and enjoy nature. All we need to do is choose our clothing wisely, which is why we recommend wearing waterproof clothing as the second layer. Of course, safety is our #1 priority. In case of extreme weather conditions, we will cancel our tours and do our best to reschedule. In these cases, you’ll receive a full refund.

This is a personal choice. We have had pregnant women on our glacier hikes and we always recommend you read the description of the activity to get a better idea. In any case, feel free to contact our Service Team for further questions and concerns.

A full refund is issued if the tour is cancelled by us.

As the Northern lights can be very elusive, their sighting cannot be guaranteed but if conditions offer a glimpse of hope the drive back to the city is a constant Northern lights hunt.
