About Tour

Covering many popular destinations in southern Iceland, the Golden and Circle and Blue lagoon tour will take you roaming around one of the most beautiful and most visited routes in the country along with a trip and dip at the famous Blue Lagoon. So, if you are in Iceland to witness some powerful waterfalls, natural geysers, fissures, lagoons, hot springs, volcanic craters, and more, then you are on the right track with this single-day tour. Experience some of the most gorgeous places in and around the capital and get several steps closer to covering more and more ground during your travels.

Highlights of the Tour

Þingvellir National Park

The only UNESCO world heritage site in Iceland, Þingvellir National Park will be your stop on the tour. The park is popular for being established on two different tectonic plates i.e. the North American Plate and the Eurasian Plate. Both these plates are constantly drifting away from each other which has created a ridge. This certain ridge is famous for Silfra fissure that it holds – a spring which maintains 2°C temperature all year round and is the top snorkeling site in the country. The main thing Þingvellir National Park is the site for Iceland’s first parliament. The one which is functioning now is located in the capital city but the very first building is still kept erect and you can visit. It was used for parliamentary meetings between 930 to 1798. Another thing you can look forward to visiting at Þingvellir National Park is the viewpoint known as Hakið which presents very different scenery.

Geysir Geothermal Area

Home to Iceland’s biggest but now dormant geyser, Geysir geothermal area is filled with hundreds of geysers and small geothermal spots. There are two main geysers in the area – Geysir (after which the whole area is named) and Strokkur. Geysir is now dormant but used to shoot up water at a height of 120 meters. The other geyser Strokkur is still active and is the main attraction of the destination. Strokkur erupts every 5-10 minutes and shoots water up to a height of 20 meters. There are paths all over the area that can take you from one geyser to another safely. You can visit the tourist center which has a small gift shop with lunch options and souvenirs.

Gullfoss Waterfall

The third stop will be the Gullfoss waterfall which is only 10 minutes from Geysir geothermal area. Popularly known by the name of ‘Golden Falls’, this glorious waterfall drops in two stages and has a total height of 32 meters. River Hvítá, a glacial river also known as ‘white river’, feeds the waterfall. The secret for the popularity of this waterfall is the extraordinary visuals that it presents forth. Looking down the gorge, one cannot even see the bottom of the waterfalls due to the fog it raises upon falling. The powerful presentation of water combined with the lush green or snow-white (in winters) is something none would want to miss.

Kerið Crater

The last stop on your golden circle tour will be Kerið crater – a perfectly oval-shaped crater that is now filled with azure-colored water and multi-colored lava rocks that surround it. This is a unique sight to come upon for a crater in Iceland. There used to a volcanic cone in its place but then the magma reserve of the cone got emptied and it collapsed in the same place creating the crater.

The Blue Lagoon

The final stop on this tour will be Blue lagoon. You will head to it as soon as you are back in the capital from the Golden Circle tour. Located on the Reykjanes peninsula, the Blue Lagoon a geothermal hot spring and spa which is known for its milky-azure waters, black rocks contrasting with it, and the special healing properties that the water has. Groundwater in Iceland is said to have minerals like silica which heal several skin conditions. The lagoon is included in the list of top 25 wonders of the world which makes it one of the top destinations on the list of must-visit spots in Iceland.
