Itinerary

The tour will begin with a pickup in the capital area. The pickup spot can be chosen from our drop down list when booking the tour. The first stop after the pickup would ideally be Thingvellir National Park. You will visit the Silfra Fissure, the first parliament building of Iceland, and many other attractions. The next stop will be made on the Geysir Geothermal Area where there are several active geysers, like Strokkur. Come along next is the Gullfoss waterfall, one of the most attractive waterfalls in Iceland. Those three locations are the top attractions in the Golden Circle. Since this is a private tour, you can also talk to your private guide and if you have time you can add some more interesting locations that will be on your way.

Some other interesting stops can for example be Kerið CraterFaxi waterfall and a lunch break at Friðheimar farm.

It is possible to book this tour as only a Private Golden Circle Tour. But it is also possible to add a stop at the Secret Lagoon or the Blue Lagoon as an extra. Your private guide will take you to either one of the lagoons and wait while you relax in these wonderful attractions.

When booking the tour you will have to choose if you want to go to the Secret Lagoon (ISK 3.000 extra per passenger) or to the Blue Lagoon (ISK 30.900 extra per passenger). The reason for the price difference is because when visiting the Blue Lagoon we will have to drive from the Golden Circle to Reykjanes, while the Secret Lagoon is located in the Golden Circle. Admission fees to the Blue Lagoon are also higher than the Secret Lagoon.

It is recommended to bring your swimsuit for the visit to the Blue Lagoon or the Secret Lagoon and dress warmly for the rest of the trip in layers of warm clothes and sturdy hiking boots.

Golden Circle Destinations

Thingvellir National Park

Thingvellir National Park: A UNESCO world heritage site, the Thingvellir National Park is the first destination in the tour of the Golden Circle. Be it springs to fissures, lava fields, mountain ranges or lush flora, and incredible fauna, the Thingvellir National Park contains a little bit of everything that you can get to see in Iceland. You will get to see the very first parliament building ever erected in the country which still stands, even though not in use after the construction of the new parliament building in the capital city.

Geysir geothermal Area & Strokkur

Geysir Geothermal Area - Book Golden Circle Iceland Package

Geysir Geothermal Area: An enormous area filled with hundreds of erupting geysers and hot water holes; the Geysir Geothermal Area is the second main stop on the Golden Circle of Iceland. The area is named after the now-dormant geyser located there – Geysir. Geysir does not erupt anymore but it used to shoot out a water gun up in the air till about 110 meters when it was active. Now the biggest geyser in the vicinity is Strokkur. This geyser goes up to almost 20 meters every 10 minutes or so.

Gullfoss waterfall

Gullfoss Falls: Very well-known as the golden falls, Gullfoss waterfall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. Approximately 175 meters wide, 106 meters high, and drops in a canyon at a distance of about 69 meters, the waterfall gets its name from the way the cascading water looks under the midnight sun – like molten gold. The summers have a white foamy thrilling stream of water which glimmers like gold falling in a canyon surrounded by beautiful green rocks. The winter hosts in a snowy-white landscape with the electric blue and white stream of water falling in the snow-clad canyon.

The Secret Lagoon

Secret Lagoon hot spring in Iceland

Locally known as Gamla Laugin, Secret Lagoon is a man-made pool fed by natural hot springs located at Hveraholmi. It is the oldest pool in the country and is a popular site among locals and tourists. The pool is located within the range of Golden Circle route. The pool was constructed in 1891. The pool water flows continuously and renews within 24 hours. The water is rich in sulfur and maintains its temperature at 38-40 deg. Celsius all year round. There are several hot springs around the lagoon like Vadmalahver, Basahver and Litli Geysir.

The place offers complete facilities right next to the swimming pool – Icelandic style showers separate for both men and women. Here is a Bistro near the place that offers snacks and drinks. It is a dedicated place for those who seek peace and relaxation of mind and body. There is a walking path built around the pool so that you can safely watch the boiling, gushing springs that feed the lagoon.

The Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon: Located in the capital only about 20 minutes away from the international airport of Reykjavik, the Blue Lagoon is one of the destinations for which Iceland is primarily known for. The natural hot spring is filled with azure blue milky water which is said to have medicinal properties that can treat several skin conditions. The Blue Lagoon is now a full-fledged retreat with spa and sauna facilities, a gorgeous restaurant, hotel, and many more amenities.

Other Interesting Locations

If your trip is going well and you have some extra time you might want to stop at any of the following locations. These locations are not a part of a regular Golden Circle tour but you can talk to your private guide to include some extra stops on the tour.

Faxi waterfall

Faxi Waterfall: A smaller waterfall as compared to Gullfoss, Faxi waterfall is located about 12 kilometers away from the Gullfoss waterfall and requires a small detour from the golden circle. The waterfall is 80 meters in width and 7 meters in height. Some people also know it as a smaller version of the Gullfoss.

Friðheimar Tomato Farm

Friðheimar tomato farm

Friðheimar Farm: Get a taste of Iceland’s home-grown tomatoes and many other vegetables in this beautiful farm which has its greenhouse and a cute, little restaurant. The farm is open for tourists during visitor hours and so is the restaurant. There is also a beautiful horse show that you can catch when on the farm.

Kerið Crater

Kerið Crater in Golden Circle in Iceland

Kerid Crater: This beautiful oval-shaped crater is one of the most beautiful places in the country and needless to say, unique. Kerid crater used to be an active volcano but when the lava inside the volcano dried up, the leftover oval crater got filled up with beautiful azure-colored waters. The color scheme of the whole vicinity is something out of an oil painting painted by a professional artist. The oval-shaped crater is filled with blue water which is then surrounded by brown, yellow, golden, and red-colored soil.
