About Tour

If this is the first time you are going to visit Iceland and you are going to drive the full ring road, then you need to bookmark this destination when you are about to finalize your travel itinerary as this is going to be a one on a lifetime experience for you. Iceland, or the land of ice and fire, is diverse and stunning, and is home to one of the largest glaciers in Europe, steaming lava fields, geysers, volcanoes, waterfalls and black sand beaches and whatnot! And to top it all, there comes geothermal Vök Baths – another beautiful location that is sure to give you a jaw drop. Let’s explore a bit more about this place with floating pools and what makes it special enough to be a part of your travel list.

Picturesque Geothermal Destination Near Lake Urriðavatn in East Iceland

Floating Pools – sounds mystical, doesn’t it? The name includes “Vök”, which is the Icelandic word denoting ‘melted ice holes’. It is said that this certain spot where the pools are constructed today was noticed by some locals a few years back. Their eye caught a spot in lake Urriðavatn which had not frozen in the winter season. The spot was somewhere in the middle of the lake and there was smoke rising from it. Later the pool and its surrounding facilities were constructed with a platform leading to the middle.

A place worthy to make your must-visit list, Vök Baths is the largest spa in East Iceland and is sure to captivate the onlookers. It is 5 km northwest of Egilsstaðir – located on the stunning and most beautiful Lake Urriðavatn – and is indeed one of the most essential stops when traveling in East Iceland. Iceland’s only floating pool, Vök Baths, is surrounded by that untouched, rugged natural beauty for which Iceland is so popular for. These pure hot water springs give you the perfect bathing experience and a chance to relive and rejuvenate yourself from a tiring journey. Nothing feels better than taking a dip into the water and enjoying your favorite food by the side of a beautiful lake with crystal-clear waters reflecting the colors of sky, right?

Get Closer to Nature and Experience the Purity!

The facilities incorporated in this spa make it a perfect destination to spend a day in! The two pools are beautifully leveled up with the lake with hot pools on the lakeshore. Not just this, there are cold tunnels and a sauna, located under the lake. One of the best things you will experience is the local cuisine served there at the café. The food is made cautiously using organic ingredients that are specifically sourced from nearby producers and herbs found in the area. You will be welcomed to the springs with a refreshing serving of Tisanes – hot drinks that are brewed from pure spring water – the only certified drinkable hot spring water in Iceland.
