A snowmobile is a motorized vehicle specially designed to be operated on snow and ice. It is mostly used for winter travel and any kind of fun leisure activity on snow. In Iceland we use it on the glaciers, which means that we can enjoy snowmobiling all year long. Snowmobiling is a brilliant option for exploring the glaciers as it is both easy to ride and exciting. Once you jump into a snowmobile you get to view the scenery, ride and race at the same time.

Make the most of your day by opting for this popular tour that combines the Golden Circle with a remarkable snowmobile ride across Iceland’s second-largest glacier, Langjökull.

What can you expect on the Golden Circle & Snowmobile Tour?

On this tour we will explore the three main attractions in the Golden Circle. Those attractions are Thingvellir National Park, Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall.

Þingvellir National Park

Thingvellir National Park during autumn in Iceland

Þingvellir National Park is only a 45-minute drive from Reykjavik and will be your first stop on this Super Truck tour. Þingvellir is the birthplace of Icelandic democracy and where the World’s first parliament met in the summer of 930 AD. It is an site immersed in history and legends and surrounded by incredible geology. The spot has been granted the UNESCO World Heritage Site status since 2004. When you enter Þingvellir NAtionl Park you will walk through Almannagjá gorge. Almannagjá is a visible evidence of the tectonic plate activity on the European – North American fault line. Today the continents are still pushing away from each other and therefor you can see the geology of the youngest country in the world when visiting Þingvellir National Park. There are many interesting sights to explore in Þingvellir National Park, including Silfra fissure, Öxarárfoss, Þingvallavatn Lake and all the historical sights.

Geysir geothermal area

Golden Circle Tours, Geysir Geothermal Area - Golden Circle Iceland Tour

After we have explored the sights of Þingvellir we will head on in our Super Truck and visit Geysir geothermal area. Geysir is one of the most unique locations in the world to explore. The geyser Strokkur will impress you when it blows the hot water up to 40 meters up from the ground. You will have to have your camera ready for when it blows because that happens every 4-6 minutes. Around Strokkur geyser you will find other geothermal features like fumaroles, mud pools and other smaller geysers as well as the large but dormant Geysir.

Gullfoss waterfall

Iceland Must See - Sunset at Gullfoss waterfall in Golden Circle Iceland, midnight sun at Gullfoss

Next up we will visit Gullfoss waterfall, one of the most impressive waterfall in Iceland. Gullfoss is an iconic location in Iceland and a place that most travelers can not miss when visiting the country. Gullfoss is a powerful glacial waterfall that is located in the canyon of Hvítá River. The water in Gullfoss is meltwater from Langjokull glacier. Enjoy a walk down to Gullfoss waterfall and feel the power when the water drops from the cliff.

You can grab something to eat at either Gullfoss or Geysir café before we will head on to Langjokull Glacier for our snowmobile adventure!

Snowmobiling on glacier

Snowmobile tour in Iceland

After we have explored all the main attractions on the Golden Circle and grabbed something to eat we will head on the the Mountain road Kjölur. This road can be hardly accessible but our Super Truck will make sure that it will be no problem for us. When driving this route you will se other parts of Iceland that many travelers don’t get to see. It is simply fascination to see the nature in the highlands of Iceland. We will drive on the Super Truck up to the snowmobile site of Langjökull, the second largest glacier in Iceland.
