Horse Riding & Hot Springs

Imagine riding to a mystical and magical valley filled with rising steam from a hot water stream on the majestic Icelandic horse, sounds simply marvelous, right? Something exactly like that awaits your arrival on this horse-riding tour of the hot springs. Set up amid mystical valley of Reykjadalur, this horse riding, and hot springs tour has a lot in store for you to make sure that you can enjoy two of the most popular activities of the country in the best way possible. The tour includes riding the Smokey valley on one of the finest steeds in the country and bathing in some of the finest outdoor, natural hot springs of Iceland, a treat filled with energy, enthusiasm, and all the beauty that mother earth holds.

The Location – Take a Break from the Routine

Reykjadalur is located about 45 kilometers away from the capital city near a small town named Hveragerði. Hveragerði is a town near the infamous Mount Hengill, an extinct volcano that went silent about 120,000 years ago. To reach the Smokey valley aka Reykjadalur valley, you will have to pass through the town of Hveragerði which means a compulsory added attraction to the itinerary of the tour.

The usual way to get to the valley is by hiking the slopes of Rjúpnabrekkur that surrounds the valley. But this particular tour will cover that distance riding on a horse. These slopes are very steep to begin with so the ride is going to be quite thrilling and fun. You will come across the Djúpagil canyon on your way to the valley. There is a beautiful waterfall here that falls right into the valley. A few more minutes of riding will get you straight to your destination.

There are several hot pools and a borehole near the hot water river that flows in the valley. The temperature of the water in each pool differs so you are sure to find your ideal kind to get a soothing bath of relaxation after the ride. There are some beautiful mud pools down the path as well. Be careful when stepping in these pools.
