Is Snorkeling in Silfra Dangerous?

Snorkeling in Silfra is generally considered safe, but it’s important to be aware of certain factors. The water in Silfra is incredibly clear and cold, as it comes from a glacier and is filtered through porous lava rock. However, the water temperature can be quite cold, typically around 2-4°C (35-39°F) year-round.

Additionally, snorkeling in Silfra requires you to wear a dry suit to stay warm, which can restrict movement for some people. It’s essential to follow the instructions of your guides and ensure that you’re comfortable with the equipment.

While the activity itself is not inherently dangerous, individuals with certain medical conditions or those who are not comfortable in cold water should exercise caution or consult with a medical professional before participating. The best memory

One of the best experiences of my travels around Europe. This was on my top list for Iceland and I do not regret it one second. The guide was great and the colors of Silfra were fascinating. We were in a very small group so we felt safe at all times. The water was cold at first but then we got used to it and I could not feel the cold after I started snorkeling around.
Recommend for anyone traveling to Iceland that wants to add some great experience to their list of memories!

The gear provided was top-notch, keeping us warm in the chilly water. This adventure is a must-do for anyone visiting Iceland! Highly recommend it for an unforgettable experience.

The earth is amazing!

This was one of the best things that I have done in my life. I have been on many snorkeling trips in my life - in the Caribbean - but this was totally different. We were not looking for the cute fishes but just looking at nature and how amazing the earth is. It truly was something that I will never forget and I am taking my kids to Iceland in a few years because they have to see this!

Surprisingly great!

What a great experience to snorkel in Thingvellir National Park. To be honest, I was not sure about this activity that my wife had planned for us, but it really did surprise me! Had the best day with my wife while the other part of our group were staying in Reykjavik. I would not have wanted to miss out on this on our trip to Iceland and the other part of our group will 100% be doing this activity next time they visit Iceland.

Michael

WOW!

Our family of 6 went on this tour and everyone had a really great time. When swimming in Thingvellir and Silfra you can see all the way to the bottom of the water, it is so clear. It was also very fun to know the history of the place and the rift. Our family has people from 17 to 60 and everyone loved this activity in Iceland.
