Hellisheiði - Hengill Volcano - Drive on top of an active volcano
Following a complimentary pick-up, we will embark on a journey along road no 1 towards the southern region of Iceland. As soon as we leave Reykjavik behind, you will be captivated by the striking lava landscapes. The transition from city to wilderness is strikingly apparent. You won’t be able to resist gazing out the window to admire the awe-inspiring lunar vistas. Our route will take us through the Hengill volcanic range, where the Hellisheiði Power Station is situated. The entire area is alive with columns of steam rising from the ground. This unmistakable indication of ongoing volcanic activity beneath the mountain is a unique and unforgettable encounter with the untamed forces of nature.
As we make our way down from the mountains, we will drive through charming towns such as Hveragerði, Selfoss, Hella, and Hvolsvöllur, until we reach the world-renowned Seljalandasfoss. This awe-inspiring waterfall is sure to leave you mesmerized, and though you may have seen pictures of it before, nothing beats the experience of walking behind the falling water and getting a little wet! Prepare to have your breath taken away by this incredible natural wonder.
Soon after marveling at the Seljalandasfoss, we will pause near another of Iceland’s treasures – The Skógafoss. This waterfall is a magnificent sight to behold, with a massive amount of water cascading down with tremendous force, resulting in a constant mist that shrouds the area in a breathtakingly beautiful rainbow. You may even feel as if you can reach out and touch it.
Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach
This is undeniably one of the most remarkable highlights of our tour. Recognized as one of the top 10 beaches in the world by National Geographic, this magnificent destination is guaranteed to leave you breathless. With basalt formations, crashing waves, and awe-inspiring vistas, it’s a feast for the senses.
However, please exercise caution and keep a safe distance from the waves as they can be exceedingly hazardous.
Eldhraun lava fields
Eldhraun is a vast lava field in the south of Iceland, created by one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history. The lava flow, which occurred over a period of eight months in 1783-1784, covered an area of over 200 square miles and transformed the landscape into a surreal expanse of black, jagged rocks and twisted, contorted shapes. Today, Eldhraun is a popular destination for visitors who come to marvel at its otherworldly beauty and learn about its fascinating geological history.
Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon
Experience the condensed beauty of a glacier lagoon, where floating icebergs create an awe-inspiring sight. This place never fails to amaze us with its ever-changing grace. Don’t miss the opportunity to take a boat tour on the glacier lagoon, it’s an amazing experience! Tickets are priced at 6300 kr. per adult and 3000 kr. for children.
The Diamond Beach
Nestled adjacent to Jökulsárlón, this stunning location will take your breath away! If Iceland were an artist (and a person, of course), this would undoubtedly be her masterpiece. Get ready to be awestruck and say “WOW” repeatedly. The ice chunks sparkling like diamonds under the Atlantic waves create a magnificent spectacle that you won’t want to miss.
Vik i Myrdal
Our next destination is a charming little town that has so much to offer. And what better way to start than with FOOD! After all the excitement, you’re probably feeling hungry, so we’ll make a stop at a restaurant where you can grab some delicious food and browse through gift items. Next, we’ll head to the famous black beach in Vík where we might just be lucky enough to spot some puffins perched on the cliffs.
