The Beauty of Westfjords: Nauteyrarlaug Hot Spring

Though there are numerous other hot springs in Iceland, Nauteyrarlaug hot spring is one of the best natural hot springs. The hot spring is located in the Westfjords of Iceland. It is located off the beaten path so it is usually not crowded at all. Actually, most of the time you will find yourself all alone in this natural hot spring. This hot spring is made with stones and rocks, imparting a very raw and natural look overlooking the lush green surroundings and mountains too. The water is extremely clean and has the perfect bathing temperature to take a dip, for complete relaxation and rejuvenation of the body. This place is a hidden gem for sure. You can visit on your vehicle and spend a relaxing time with your friends and family, away from the city chaos. This hot spring is located at the end of Highway 635, near the farm of Bær, just north of the fjords.

The bathing temperature of the Nauteyrarlaug hot spring remains constantly around 40-42°C and comes from the nearby borehole, which is the main source of this hot spring. The temperature of the hot spring can vary depending upon the weather conditions.  This is a cozy and relaxing hot spring that has some outdoor changing facilities available. There is a small house, located next to the spring and that can be used for changing.

It was years ago when a fishing company drilled in the surrounding area that led to the blockage of the flow to the pool. Then it was at that time, they fixed the same and used a hose to keep the flow continuous from its natural hot spring source. The water now comes through the pipe, directly from the spring.

Nauteyrarlaug Hot Tub

Not only the Nauteyrarlaug hot spring, but you can also enjoy it in the Nauteyrarlaug hot tub as well, which is located close to the hot spring and makes it even more exciting. When driving towards Nauteyrarlaug Hot Spring, take road 635 and continue to drive past the Nauteyrarkirkja church until you spot and reach the salmon farm. From there, you can take the left turn, after the farm, and you will reach Nauteyrarlaug hot tub approximately, 20-30 meters. It is recommended to carry your own eateries, and other essentials, as this place is in a remote area and no other food facilities are available. So, have a relaxing time with your friends and family, having a dip at the Nauteyrarlaug hot spring and tub.
