Itinerary
Departure from Vík
Your adventure begins in the charming village of Vík, where your expert local guide picks you up in a specially modified super jeep. As we leave the coast behind and head inland, you’ll quickly notice the dramatic shift in landscape — from lush lowlands to the rugged wilderness of the Icelandic highlands.

Drive along Fjallabak Syðra Highland Road
We enter one of the most scenic highland routes in Iceland — the Fjallabak Syðra trail. This ancient path winds through surreal lava fields, colorful rhyolite mountains, and glacial rivers, offering a thrilling off-road experience and endless photography opportunities.

Stop at Axlarfoss Waterfall
Our first stop is Axlarfoss, a powerful and lesser-known waterfall tucked within the highlands. Surrounded by raw volcanic cliffs and mossy terrain, this cascade is a hidden gem that captures the untamed beauty of Iceland. Take your time to explore, snap photos, and enjoy the tranquility of nature.

Mælifellssandur Black Sand Plains
Next, we drive across Mælifellssandur, an expansive black desert shaped by glacial flooding and volcanic activity. This moon-like landscape stretches for miles, with distant mountains and glaciers decorating the horizon. The ride across these sand plains is bumpy, exciting, and incredibly scenic.

The Majestic Mælifell Volcano
As we near Mælifell, its bright green cone rises dramatically from the black sands — a stark and surreal contrast that looks like something out of a dream. Covered in soft moss and untouched by crowds, Mælifell is the crown jewel of the tour. You’ll have time here to walk around, take photos, and truly soak in one of Iceland’s most iconic natural wonders.

Öldufell and Secret Highland Trails
From Mælifell, we descend toward Öldufell, where we follow hidden trails that only locals know. Along the way, you’ll pass unique geological formations and highland views that very few travelers ever get to see.

Hólmsárfoss & Hólmsárgljúfur Canyon
We continue to Hólmsárfoss, a beautiful series of falls fed by glacial meltwater, and Hólmsárgljúfur, a deep canyon carved by the Hólmsá River. These stops are perfect for a quiet moment in nature and offer spectacular backdrops for photography.

Return to Vík
After a full day of highland exploration, we make our way back to Vík, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening depending on conditions. Along the way, your guide may make extra stops if weather, time, and road conditions allow.
