With a diverse color palette, spectacular landforms, and a unique ecosystem, Fjallabak promises a mesmerizing experience.
Itinerary
Fjallabak, regarded by many Icelanders as a crown jewel of the highlands, boasts a diverse color palette, spectacular landforms, a unique yet fragile ecosystem, and a tranquil desert wilderness. These elements combine to create an unforgettable landscape that captivates all who visit.
Given the vast array of natural wonders in Fjallabak, a single day is insufficient to experience them all. Each tour is unique, as we select the best route based on current road and weather conditions to ensure an optimal experience.
Potential highlights include:
- Mt. Mælifell: An iconic, conical volcano covered in vibrant green moss, set in the stark black ash desert of Mælifellssandur.
- Rauðibotn: A striking crater with an emerald green lake surrounded by red rocks.
- Álftavatn: A picturesque lake renowned for its birdlife.
- Hvanngil Valley, Mt. Hattfell, and Mt. Laufafell: Each offering breathtaking views.
- Markafljótsgljúfur Canyon: Featuring a technicolor glacial river, waterfalls, and impressive stratified lava and ash walls.
- Torfahlaup: A beautiful spot at the canyon’s entrance.
- Mt. Hekla: One of Iceland’s most active volcanoes, with over 20 eruptions since 874.
- Mt. Einhyrningur: A uniquely shaped mountain resembling a sleeping unicorn.
- Landmannalaugar: A geothermal oasis with nearby wonders such as Hnausapollur crater lake, Rauðaskál crater, Dyngjuleið, and Dómadalur.
Please note that it’s not possible to visit all these sites in one day. We will tailor the route to the day’s weather conditions to ensure a memorable experience. For those specifically interested in Landmannalaugar, we offer a dedicated Landmannalaugar Day Tour.
