We will have a lunch stop at Vík, but please note that lunch is not included in the tour price.
Due to limited daylight, we won’t be able to stop at Skógafoss from the 16th of November until the 31st of January.
The tour will last around 11 hours in total.
We recommend wearing warm and comfortable clothes and sturdy hiking boots.
You can rent some of these items during the booking process.
The weather in Iceland is very changeable – meaning that waterproof clothing is essential.
We also recommend bringing snacks and a water bottle.

Itinerary

We’ll pick you up from one of our designated Reykjavik pick-up points and embark on a scenic journey to the delightful village of Vik via the Ring Road. En route, you’ll witness the iconic features that make Iceland famous – from majestic volcanoes and glaciers to enchanting moss-covered lava fields.

Vík Village

Upon reaching Vik, we’ll proceed to our authentic Icelandic stables where you’ll meet your guide and receive the essential safety gear. Our experienced guides will carefully pair you with a horse, ensuring a suitable match based on your riding experience – the less experienced the rider, the more seasoned the horse. Once everyone is geared up, your exhilarating horse-riding adventure will kick off!

Víkurfjara Black Sand Beach

The journey unfolds along the captivating Víkurfjara beach, a remarkable volcanic wonderland celebrated for its striking jet-black sands, intriguing rock formations, and towering basalt sea stacks. Above us, a diverse array of seabirds, from Arctic terns to charming puffins, gracefully soar. Brace yourself for the dramatic interplay of white-foamed waves against the black sand and basalt columns, accompanied by the invigorating scent of salty air carried by a refreshing sea breeze against your face.

The Icelandic horse

Discover the enchanting landscape with the Icelandic horse, a breed perfectly suited for this magical terrain. Smaller than their counterparts, Icelandic horses boast unique adaptations that make them well-suited for the local conditions. Introduced during Viking times, these horses were so revered that laws were enacted to preserve their genetic purity, keeping them unchanged for nearly 1000 years. One fascinating characteristic is their distinctive gait, known as the ‘tolt’ – get ready to tolt like a true Viking!

Following the horse-riding tour, we’ll journey to the charming village of Vik for lunch, offering breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. Returning to Reykjavik, we’ll make stops at two stunning waterfalls along the way.

Skógafoss waterfall

The first, Skogafoss, holds mythical allure, with locals believing in buried Viking treasure beneath its majestic cascade.

Skógafoss is known for its awe-inspiring beauty and powerful cascade. Plummeting from a height of 60 meters (197 feet) and spanning a width of 25 meters (82 feet), Skógafoss captivates with its thunderous roar and mesmerizing display of mist and rainbows in the sunlight. Set against a backdrop of lush greenery and dramatic cliffs, this iconic waterfall is not only a visual spectacle but also steeped in local mythology.

Seljalandsfoss waterfall

The second waterfall, Seljalandsfoss, nearly as impressive as Skogafoss, is renowned for its unique rock path, allowing visitors to stroll behind the cascading water. Be prepared for incredible photo opportunities!
