About Tour
The Icelandic Lava Show is a popular attraction located in the town of Vík, south Iceland. The show is a unique and interactive experience that provides visitors with an in-depth look at the geological and cultural significance of volcanic activity in Iceland.
The show begins when the host welcomes the audience and begins with a brief educational video about Icelandic volcanism, focusing specifically on the nearby Katla volcano and its impact on the local population throughout history. The show includes personal anecdotes and explains the evacuation plan in the event of an eruption.
The tour then moves to the main attraction, the Lava Show, which is held in a specially designed theater. The show uses state-of-the-art technology to simulate a volcanic eruption, complete with sound effects and special lighting. Visitors can watch as molten lava flows down a replica volcano, and learn about the different stages of an eruption, including the formation of magma and lava, and the different types of volcanic eruptions.
As the lava flows into the showroom, the host demonstrates their mastery by manipulating the lava using an iron rod to create unique formations such as miniature lava tunnels, and caves. They explain the scientific phenomena happening in real-time, making for an intimate, educational, and entertaining experience unlike any other. After the show, attendees will have a newfound appreciation for nature and will view Iceland differently. It is a truly awe-inspiring, must-see experience.
The show is also educational, providing visitors with information about the impact of volcanic activity on Iceland’s environment, economy, and culture. The guide also provides information about how Icelanders have adapted to living with volcanic activity, including the use of geothermal energy and volcanic ash in farming.
The Icelandic Lava Show is a great way for visitors to learn about the geological and cultural significance of volcanic activity in Iceland. The show is suitable for visitors of all ages and provides an interactive and educational experience that is both entertaining and informative.
How is the lava created?
In order to create a miniature volcano eruption, the show host will superheat real lava from the 1918 Katla eruption and once it is molten, they will pour it into a showroom full of audience to witness. The showroom instantly heats up and the audience can safely observe the mesmerizing sight, sound, smell and heat of the flowing lava, making for an unforgettable and sensational experience.
