Itinerary
Our South Coast Bus Tour From Reykjavík begins with our convenient pickup service, ensuring a fast and efficient start to your journey. We offer multiple pickup locations in the city center for your convenience. Once we’re ready, we embark on the famous Route 1 highway, heading east from the city and marveling at the picturesque southern coastline. Throughout the tour, our knowledgeable guides will provide fascinating insights and entertaining commentary.
Skógafoss waterfall
Our first destination is the magnificent Skógafoss waterfall, a majestic and powerful cascade fed by the Skógá River. If you’re up for a little adventure, you can climb the 370 steps to the top and enjoy a breathtaking bird’s-eye view of the surroundings. Even from the ground, the waterfall’s grandeur is awe-inspiring, and you can feel the mist and spray from a distance.
Vík í Mýrdal & Reynisfjara black sand beach
After a brief visit to the charming town of Vík, our next stop takes us to Reynisfjara beach. Here, you’ll witness the raw power of the North Atlantic waves crashing upon the striking black sand beach, while the towering basalt cliff columns provide a dramatic backdrop. According to local legends, these basalt columns are the petrified remains of trolls who were caught outside at sunrise and turned to stone. Reynisfjara beach is not only the most renowned of its kind in Iceland, but also holds a special place among beaches worldwide. Its distinctive black color is the result of ancient volcanic eruptions, where molten lava from Katla volcano met the cool waters of the sea, solidifying and transforming into sand instantaneously.
Sólheimajokull Glacier
Next, our journey takes us to Sólheimajökull, a glacier tongue extending from the expansive Mýrdalsjökull glacier. A brief walk will lead us to the glacier, where you can witness the visible impacts of global warming on the ice. Over the past decade, the glacier has receded by several hundred meters, leaving behind a stunning glacier lagoon. If conditions permit, your guide will provide an opportunity to approach the glacier up close, allowing you to touch this awe-inspiring yet diminishing natural wonder.
Seljalandsfoss waterfall
We conclude our day with a visit to the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Don’t miss the chance to capture stunning photos, especially if you venture along the trail that leads behind the waterfall. Be prepared for a potentially wet experience, so we suggest wearing moisture-wicking or water-resistant clothing to ensure your comfort.
Sky Lagoon
Sky Lagoon, Iceland’s latest hot-spring bathing lagoon, offers a serene and less crowded alternative to the Blue Lagoon. Located closer to the city, it’s the ideal place to unwind and rejuvenate after your adventurous day exploring Iceland’s untamed southern coast. This unique blend of a swimming pool and thermal spa is perched on a cliff, providing breathtaking views of the bay and creating an infinity pool-like experience. With various packages available, you can customize your visit to suit your preferences and make the most of your time at Sky Lagoon.
