Highlights of the Tour
Geldingadalur Active Volcano Tour
Hike across the natural wonders of erupting lava fields, coastal features, and geothermal fields. Adventure into the dust and ash-filled atmosphere by climbing using hiking poles and shoes wearing warm & waterproof clothing. Experience the exhilarating climb while sightseeing warm bubbling waters, ash-covered lands, and an erupting volcano.
The journey involves stopping at the scenic Lake Kleifarvatn before starting the hike into the Geldingadalur Valley to witness the magnificent volcanic activity. Enjoy the view of lava flowing off the volcano while having homemade dinner with friends and family members.
On your return journey, witness the magnificent Reykjanes Peninsula, a place that has experienced volcanic eruptions in the past with soft lava moss and intricate rock formations. The peninsula’s view is mesmerizing and lies in close vicinity to many other Icelandic attractions.
Experience the miracles on the land across the recently erupted Geldingalur valley volcano on a five-hour evening journey. The Fagradalsfjall region volcano has started erupting continuously after remaining dormant for almost 7,000 years.
After reaching the peninsula, you would also notice conic peaks, craters, and landscapes. The Fagradalsfjall eruption site would depict vivid orange and red-colored molten rocks, glowing rivers with ever-changing shapes, and fire fountains. The vibrations and sounds might seem as though the earth might burst apart into flames.
The unbridled active volcano forces would seem like a spectacle and capture breaths at first sightings. The rare and spectacular natural phenomenon would surely offer moments to capture and share on social media.
The return journey also shows smoke and glow arriving from the erupting sites for many miles. Walking through the mossy lava fields would become a bit challenging without the hiking shoes. The tour only happens in small groups and remains available until the volcano stop erupting.

For tours during winter: warm clothing as first layer, waterproof outdoor jacket and pants, hiking boots with high ankle protection, a hat and gloves are ideal. For tours during summer, bringing a light rain jacket and pants is in most cases enough protection.
