Itinerary
Kerið Crater
You’ll commence your journey by boarding a minibus from your preferred pick-up location. With several stops conveniently scattered across the capital city, you can opt for the one that suits you best. Accommodating up to 18 individuals, the minibus ensures a comfortable experience.
This distinctive tour follows a reverse route to steer clear of crowds, commencing at the captivating Kerið Crater. This exquisite site boasts a perfectly symmetrical oval shape, where once an imposing volcano stood ablaze. Over time, the volcanic activity subsided, causing the cone to collapse in its place. This intriguing process gave birth to the crater we see today. Now adorned with serene azure and verdant waters, the crater stands as a testament to nature’s transformation.
The vibrant hues of multi-colored lava rocks encircle the crater, crafting a breathtaking landscape that adds to its allure.
Friðheimar Tomato Farm
Next on your itinerary is the renowned Friðheimar Tomato Farm, celebrated for its impressive greenhouses and indigenous Icelandic horse breed. Here, you’ll delve into the world of these unique greenhouses and meet the exquisite Icelandic horses residing on the premises.
As you visit the stables, you’ll have the privilege of interacting with these magnificent creatures. A refreshing tea or coffee break will provide the perfect opportunity to relax amidst the charming surroundings. Immerse yourself in discovering the intricacies of the horses’ special gait – the Tolt. Additionally, you’ll have the chance to savor the delectable taste of fresh tomatoes straight from the greenhouse.
Prepare for an enlightening presentation about the horses within the stables, accompanied by an engaging show that showcases the diverse gaits these horses possess. It’s a truly captivating experience that combines knowledge, nature, and a touch of culinary delight.
Gullfoss Waterfall
Your subsequent destination is the Gullfoss Waterfall, often referred to as the Golden Waterfall. This natural wonder is fueled by the majestic Hvítá River, which originates from the Langjökull glacier. Cascading gracefully, the waterfall stands at a remarkable height of 32 meters, descending in two distinct stages into a profound 70-meter-deep gorge.
From the summit, you’ll be treated to a truly enchanting panorama. The sight is nothing short of exquisite, with the distant Langjökull glacier completing the stunning tableau.
Geysir Geothermal Area
Your minibus will make a halt at the Geysir Geothermal Area next. Within this expanse, approximately a hundred small geothermal features abound, but the area is most renowned for its prominent geysers: Geysir and Strokkur. Although Geysir currently slumbers and won’t put on a display, the dynamic Strokkur reliably erupts every 5-10 minutes, propelling water an impressive 20 meters into the sky.
For your safety and convenience, well-constructed pathways meander through the geothermal wonderland, providing a secure route for exploration.
Þingvellir National Park
Concluding your journey, you’ll arrive at Þingvellir National Park, a remarkable UNESCO World Heritage site and the sole one of its kind within the country. This historic location houses the nation’s inaugural parliamentary building, where assemblies convened from 930 to 1798. While the official proceedings have since transitioned to the capital, the original site remains accessible for exploration by visitors.
The park encompasses a diverse array of captivating sights, among them the iconic ridge formed by the gradual movement of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. This awe-inspiring natural phenomenon is just one of the many marvels awaiting your gaze within the park.
The tour will last about 8 hours and you will be accompanied by a guide at all times. The tour will also have a table reserved at the Friðheimar Tomato Farm which is famous for its incredibly delicious dishes made with homegrown tomatoes and other herbs. So, prepare yourself for one of the most wholesome tours around the country and get ready to update your itinerary.
