About Tour

Experience the beauty of Vestmannaeyjar, the stunning archipelago off the south coast of Iceland, by embarking on an unforgettable boat tour around the island. Our 1.5-hour sailing trip offers spectacular views of the island from the sea. Our knowledgeable guide will provide fascinating insights into the history of the islands, including the Viking sagas and the volcanic eruption of 1973. You’ll also learn about Surtsey, the world’s youngest island, which is part of the archipelago. Admire various rock formations and sail along the new lava that expanded Heimaey island by 2 km, including the famous Elephant rock.

On this tour, you’ll have the chance to visit several extraordinary sites that are rarely seen by others as you sail across the Atlantic waters. Among these sites are the coastal caves. You will visit at least two of them. Fjósið, located inside the cape Höfði, known as the windiest place in Europe, and Klettshellir, famous for its remarkable acoustics.

Wildlife enthusiasts will be delighted with this tour. If taken before September, you’ll be treated to the sight of thousands of nesting Atlantic Puffins. The Westman Islands are home to the highest concentration of these charming birds anywhere in the world. You’ll spot them on the isles and rocks, alongside their lifelong mates, diligently safeguarding their burrows, and in the waters, where they hunt for food.

During your trip, there’s an excellent chance of spotting whales in the bountiful waters surrounding the Westman Islands. The area is teeming with marine life, attracting a variety of creatures, including the magnificent Orca and the second-largest species to have ever lived on Earth, the Fin Whale. Additionally, you may also catch a glimpse of Blue, Minke, and Humpback Whales, along with White-Beaked Dolphins and Harbour Porpoises.

Itinerary

The tour starts at the harbor on Heimaey, the sole inhabited region of the islands. Upon arrival, you’ll receive a buoyancy aid and life jacket, ensuring your warmth and security, prior to embarking on a 90-minute boat tour. Discover the splendor of the Westman Islands’ caves, monoliths, and coastline, providing an exciting opportunity to explore a lesser-traversed region of Iceland.
