Itinerary
2 Day Tour to the South Coast | Winter Package
Day 1 - South Coast waterfalls, Glacier Hike & Ice Cave
Pick up in Reykjavik
The 2 Day Iceland Tour starts with a pick up from your accommodation or nearby bus stop in Reykjavik in the morning. You will meet your guide and the other travelers in this small group tour. As the day starts you will drive through the mountains that separate Reykjavik from the south. You’ll be treated to breathtaking views of lava fields, distant peaks, and geothermal plants releasing steam.
Seljalandsfoss Waterfall
Your first stop after leaving Reykjavík is the stunning Seljalandsfoss waterfall, famous for the path that leads behind its cascading water. Bring waterproof clothing so you can walk into the cave-like space and see the world from behind the falls — a truly unique Icelandic experience. Feel the mist on your face as sunlight filters through the water, surrounded by lush green cliffs and a bright blue sky.
Skógafoss Waterfall
Next, you’ll visit the impressive Skógafoss waterfall, located on Iceland’s southern coast. You can admire its power from below or climb the staircase beside it for a breathtaking view from the top. In winter, Skógafoss transforms into a magical scene as snow blankets the cliffs and black sand gorge.
Glacier Hike in Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park
Next, you’ll take on an unforgettable glacier hike in Skaftafell Nature Reserve, part of the mighty Vatnajökull Glacier. After meeting your certified guide for a safety briefing and gear fitting, you’ll step onto the ice to explore dramatic landscapes shaped by time and volcanic ash. This area has appeared in films like Interstellar and Game of Thrones, thanks to its striking contrast of blue ice and black lava streaks.
Blue Ice Cave
Your glacier hike continues to a breathtaking blue ice cave, formed naturally within the glacier. These caves melt and reshape each year, so every visit offers a completely new experience. With sturdy hiking boots and your expert guide leading the way, you’ll safely explore the shimmering blue walls and learn fascinating facts about these ever-changing formations.
Northern Lights
After finishing up the hike and the visit to the ice cave, you will head to your accommodation – a hotel in the southeast part of the country. You will relax for a while, have dinner, and meet with your guide once again when it is dark out there. Your guide will examine the weather conditions out there and check for the sky to be clear enough in order to spot the northern lights. If the weather allows, you guys will head out to find a good spot to catch the Aurora and even get some good pictures of the lights with beautiful background.
Day 1 - South Coast waterfalls, Glacier Hike & Ice Cave
Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon
Next, you’ll visit Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Iceland’s deepest lake and one of its most stunning natural wonders. Fed by the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, the lagoon is filled with floating icebergs that drift serenely on its bright blue waters — a breathtaking sight framed by shimmering glaciers and open sky.
Diamond Beach
Just across the road lies the famous Diamond Beach, where icebergs from Jökulsárlón wash ashore and glisten like jewels on the black volcanic sand. The contrast of crystal-clear ice against dark sand creates one of Iceland’s most photogenic scenes. Remember to stay a safe distance from the waves, as conditions can change quickly.
Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach
Last, but not least, on the list of destinations to be covered on this tour is the Reynisfjara black sand beach. Loaded with humongous basalt columns on one side and the crashing Atlantic waves on the other, the Reynisfjara black sand beach is a pretty unique entity, especially when compared to the glaring white glaciers that you have already covered before on the tour. Not far from Reynisfjara are the cliffs of Dyrhólaey which serve as the home to the migratory birds of Iceland.
Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach
After visiting the beach, you and your party will head back to the capital in the minibus and will be dropped at the designated drop off location. The ever learned and experienced guide will stay with you throughout the tour and keep you updated as well as safe.
You can choose a pick up in Reykjavik or the capital area. Find the designated pick up locations in the drop down menu when booking.
