Itinerary
Hike to the Glacier
Your adventure begins at the Sólheimajökull glacier parking lot, where your expert guide will outfit you with all the necessary gear: crampons, harness, helmet with headlamp, and hiking boots (if rented). Once everyone is geared up, you’ll set off on a 30-minute hike toward the glacier. The trail is relatively flat with some rocky terrain, and your guide will adjust the pace to suit the group, giving you time to soak in the dramatic Icelandic landscape along the way.
Glacier Hike & Zip Line Experience
Now the real adventure begins! With crampons secured to your boots, you’ll step onto the icy surface of Sólheimajökull. The sensation of walking on a glacier is unlike anything else, and though it may feel unfamiliar at first, you’ll soon find your rhythm.
As you ascend gradually, your guide will lead you past striking glacial formations such as moulins—deep ice shafts carved by meltwater. The views here are out of this world, surrounded by the raw, untouched beauty of Iceland’s frozen wilderness.
When you reach the top, it’s time for the highlight of the tour: a thrilling zip line ride over the glacier! Feel the rush as you glide across ancient ice, with panoramic views stretching in every direction.
Return Journey
After your adrenaline-pumping zip line experience, you’ll hike back across the glacier and return to the parking lot, reflecting on an unforgettable adventure. From there, it’s a 30-minute drive back to the Glacier Lagoon, where you’ll say farewell to your guide—taking home lasting memories from the heart of Katla Geopark.
