About Víðgelmir Lava Cave

With 1600 meters of length, Víðgelmir lava cave is a naturally formed lava tunnel created by a volcanic eruption nearby. The cave is located on a privately-owned land by a small local family and is always open for guided tours for the visitors. No natural light gets inside the cave which made it essential to put on feature lighting facilities to make it possible for the tourists to walk and properly navigate through the cave. Once an epitome of ruggedness and raw natural beauty, now the ever-challenging scape of the Víðgelmir lava can be easily covered thanks to the construction of the signature walkway. Endowed with several beautiful natural structures and spectrum of colors, the beauty of Víðgelmir cave is something one can comprehend only upon seeing it first-hand.
