About Tour

On this helicopter tour in Iceland, you will be witnessing some of the most magical places in the country. This Iceland helicopter glacier tour is one of the most unique helicopter tours in Iceland because you will be landing on a glacier. Join us on this adventurous activity to make your trip to Iceland extra memorable.

We will take off from Reykjavik Airport. Reykjavik Airport is located around 2 kilometers from Hallgrimskirkja Church in downtown Reykjavik. It is easy to take a taxi from your accommodation to the airport, but otherwise it takes around 25 minutes to walk from Hallgrimskirkja to the airport. See exact meeting point here below.

Glymur waterfall & Hvalfjörður

Book Helicopter tour Iceland - Glacier Landing & Waterfalls - Glymur waterfall

Once you have arrived at Reykjavik Airport, we will get ready for the Helicopter tour to start. The Helicopter will head into Hvalfjörður fjord. Hvalfjörður used to be a popular place for locals as well as travelers for a scenic road trip and exploration. However, after Hvalfjarðargöng tunnels were created in 1998, very few people visit this place, and it is almost like a hidden paradise just a couple of minutes’ drives from Reykjavik. In Hvalfjörður fjord you can find one of Iceland‘s highest waterfall, Glymur, with cascade of 198 meters. The waterfall is hidden in a high and narrow canyon at the bottom of Hvalfjörður. You will get magnificent views of the waterfall from the helicopter. Seeing the waterfall drop down almost 200 meters and the mossy and narrow canyon is something you will not forget.

Glacier Landing: Langjokull Glacier

Icelandic Grandeur Helicopter Adventure

Next, we will head on to Langjökull Glacier for your Glacier Landing. It is very unique to fly above a glacier where you can see how it has moved through the centuries. We will land on Langjokull and during your landing you will get to enjoy the unique calmness and the incredible mountain views surrounding us while breathing in some pristine glacier air. It is a very unique moment. Take your time to enjoy the scenery and take some pictures, feel the snow on the glacier and take in the views.

The Rift between continents

Almannagjá, Thingvellir National Park during autumn in Iceland, Þingvellir National Park

After our glacier landing, we will head on back to the helicopter. The tour is not over yet because we will be seeing some more attractions that are unique to Iceland. We will fly past the 9000-year-old shield volcano Skjaldbreiður and follow the continental rift to Þingvellir National Park. Did you know that Iceland is divided by the Mid-Atlantic Rift? This means that some parts of Iceland are on the North American tectonic plate, while others are on the Eurasian plate. We will fly over the rift where these continental plates are drifting apart. The rift is called Almannagjá.

Þingvellir National Park

Þingvellir National Park - Golden Circle Iceland Tour

Þingvellir is part of the famous Golden Circle route in Iceland and is known for Alþingi, the site of Iceland‘s parliament from the 10th to 18th centuries. And also, for sitting in a rift valley caused by the separation of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. When visiting Þingvellir on foot you can see the rift and it is great to walk along it, but when seeing this from above, it is something else. This is best seen from above since you can see the rift so clearly. In Þingvellir you can also see Öxarár river and Öxarárfoss waterfall which flows over the tip of the tectonic plates and into Almannagjá rift.

We can promise you that you will not regret to see Iceland from above on this helicopter glacier tour.
