The sad thing about the stopover in Iceland is that most of the major tourist attractions and scenic spots are a little far from the capital city. But on the brighter side, there is something that is one of the most popular activities in Iceland and that can be explored within a day. The Golden Circle Tour can be reached via a bus or car and can be explored easily if you have just a day to spare. There are three major sights on this tour, first is one of the largest waterfall of Iceland called Gulfoss, which is as majestic as it sounds. It is a major tourist attraction and is visited by tourists coming from all over the world. It is almost impossible to find an individual who has been to Iceland and hasn’t seen this beauty.

The second and another marvel of this tour is the geothermal field, where there is Geyser, which is the first geyser that Europeans discovered. There are several other geysers in his area that were later named. A geyser called Strokkur Geyser is a very popular tourist sight as it erupts every 5-10 minutes sending awe among tourists. One of the best thing about the geothermal field in this area is the Secret Lagoon, located in the town of Flúðir. It is a pool of charming blue water with temperature ranging between 38°–40° C. Secret Lagoon is one of the most favorite and popular spots among tourists as it offers absolute comfort and freshness to the soul. Bathing in an open pool of warm water in a country that is called ICE-land is a unique experience indeed. Thousands of tourists visit the geothermal field every year to experience the warmth and freshness of the secret lagoon.

The third and the final sight of The Golden Circle Route is called Þingvellir National Park. This national park is one of the most important areas for Icelanders and has major historical significance. This national park is the area where the first Icelandic parliament was established in the year 930. This makes it a protected and historical place for Icelanders who are very proud of the history and culture of their country. Þingvallavatn Lake is located at the national park and is the largest lake in Iceland. The valley where this national park is situated also marks the area where Eurasian and North American plates meet.

These three sites are the reason behind the popularity of the Golden Circle Tour and are totally worthy of popularity and a day’s worth of stopover should give you plenty time to cover them.
