About the Iceland Things to Do Map

Planning a trip to Iceland can feel overwhelming — there’s simply so much to see and do. That’s exactly why we created this interactive Iceland Things to Do Map. It’s built by locals who know the country inside and out, and it gives you a clear, practical way to explore Iceland’s attractions, activities, and hidden gems in one place.

Every tour and activity on this page has been hand-picked by our Iceland Travel Guide team, based on years of guiding travelers, running tours ourselves, and exploring the country in every season. Whether you’re planning a full Ring Road trip, a South Coast adventure, or just a few days near Reykjavík, this map helps you find the right experiences in the right locations — without guesswork.

Use the filters to narrow down by region, season, activity type, difficulty, or length. You can explore the map freely or scroll the tour list below for quick booking options.

How to Use This Iceland Map

We designed the map to be intuitive and traveler-friendly:

  • Zoom in on any region to explore tours, activities, hikes, hot springs, and attractions nearby

  • Filter by tour type (ice caves, waterfalls, lagoons, Northern Lights, hiking, cultural tours, etc.)

  • Click on any marker to read more about the activity and access direct booking options

  • Compare locations along your planned driving route — perfect for building your itinerary

  • View both map + grid at the same time; the filters update both instantly

Whether you’re flying into Iceland tomorrow or planning a detailed multi-day trip months in advance, this tool helps simplify everything.

Why This Map Is Useful for Planning Your Iceland Trip

We created this map because most travelers face the same challenges:

  • Iceland has too many amazing things to do — it’s hard to know where to start

  • Online lists often separate attractions by popularity, not by location

  • Many guides are written by people who’ve never been here

This map solves all of that.

Because we’re locals, we added hundreds of activities in the exact locations where they take place — including small, lesser-known experiences that you’d never stumble on otherwise. You can instantly see what’s near your hotel, your driving route, or your must-see stops.

It’s the closest thing to having an Icelandic guide planning your trip with you.

Best Regions in Iceland for Activities (Local Recommendations)

Here’s a quick overview of what each region is best known for. These short chapters help users understand the map at a glance:

South Coast

The south coast of Iceland is often told to be the most beautiful part of the country. Here you will find endless of waterfalls, black sand beaches, glaciers, ice caves, volcanoes, and coastline scenery. A must for first-time visitors. Kayak along the icebergs in the glacier lagoon, hike on top of the largest glacier in Europe, or visit a natural ice cave. Ride the Icelandic Horse on the black sand beach or even up to Reykjadalur hot spring valley where you can bathe in the natural hot spring.

Golden Circle

The Golden Circle is Iceland’s most iconic sightseeing route, and it really does offer a little bit of everything — waterfalls, geothermal power, volcanic landscapes, and unforgettable adventure activities. Because it sits so close to Reykjavík, it’s the region most travelers visit first, and one we locals return to again and again.

This area is perfect if you want variety. You can snorkel between two tectonic plates at Silfra, snowmobile on top of Langjökull Glacier, go horse riding with friendly Icelandic horses, or even try dog sledding when conditions allow. The Golden Circle is also home to some of Iceland’s best geothermal lagoons: Laugarvatn Fontana, the new Laugarás Lagoon, and Hvammsvík Hot Springs just a short drive away.

It’s the ideal region for travelers who want a blend of classic sightseeing and pure Icelandic experiences — big landscapes, natural hot pools, and unique adventures all in one day.

Reykjavík

In Reykjavik you can find variety of city tours, like food tours to try Icelandic food or the most popular restaurants in the city. Join a walking tour to get to know Reykjavik a little better. We recommend both these tour early on your trip so you get the feeling of the city and know what you want to explore better. This is also the ideal place to go to the Sky Lagoon, Blue Lagoon, and also whale watching and during summer you can go on a boat tour to see the puffins. 100% sightings of the puffins guaranteed!
Explore the Museums, FlyOver Iceland, cultural tours, and  the infamous nightlife of Reykjavik.

West Iceland

In West Iceland you will find Snæfellsnes Peninsula and the Silver Circle. Here you can find lava caves like Víðgelmir and Vatnshellir. Whale Watching and puffin tours are also popular from Snæfellsnes Peninsula and horse riding along the beach is simply magical. Discover small local fishing villages, and dramatic volcanic landscapes when traveling in this region. Don’t forget to visit Húsafell region – go Into the Glacier by a jeep or a snowmobile and afterwards, visit Húsafell Canyon Baths

North Iceland

North Iceland is know for excellent whale watching tours. Húsavík is the most popular whale watching spot but there are also great whale watching tours from Akureyri and Hauganes. Visit the geothermal baths in Myvatn, Akureyri and Húsavík, wee the volcanic formations around Lake Myvatn and drive along the Arctic coastline. Experience the Northern Icelandic culture in Akureyri and go River Rafting in the best rivers of Iceland.

East Iceland

Esat Iceland is a peaceful region known for narrow fjords, puffin cliffs, remote hiking, and charming fishing villages.
Driving here feels relaxing and unhurried — a great option for those wanting a calmer pace. Don’t miss Vök Baths in Egilsstaðir!

Highlands (Summer Only)

The Highlands are Iceland’s raw interior — a volcanic wilderness that only opens in summer. Once the mountain roads are clear, travelers and locals head into places like Landmannalaugar, known for its colorful rhyolite mountains and natural hot springs, and Kerlingarfjöll, with steaming valleys and bright geothermal hills.

This region is perfect for hiking, photography, and off-the-beaten-path adventure. Popular options include Landmannalaugar day tours, Highland Super Jeep tours, and multi-day trekking routes like the Laugavegur Trail. If you want to experience Iceland at its wildest, the Highlands are where you’ll find it.

Westfjords

The Westfjords are one of Iceland’s most peaceful and remote regions — dramatic cliffs, small fishing villages, and long winding fjords. It’s a wonderful area for travelers who enjoy fewer crowds and more nature.

Top activities here include whale watching in Ísafjörður, which has excellent summer sightings, and hiking in Hornstrandir, a true wilderness reserve where Arctic foxes roam freely. Add in highlights like Dynjandi waterfall and Látrabjarg bird cliffs, and you’ve got a region that feels completely different from the rest of Iceland in the best possible way.
