GeoSea is a wonderful location consisting of geothermal sea baths, situated in Húsavík in North-Iceland. Crowning the cape, GeoSea is a recent addition to the Whale watching capital of Iceland, Husavik. The place has already garnered enough hype as visitors and citizens of the country specifically travel towards the North to relish this marvel.
The heavenly experience at GeoSea offers an infinite view of the sea. You can enjoy the breathtaking scenes while soaking in the hot sea baths. Visitors will be able to admire Skjálfandaflói bay and the North-Atlantic. Boats, ships, and containers pass by providing a painting-like view of the area.
GeoSea is situated 49 meters above sea level, on the edge of the Húsavíkurhöfði cliffs. The sea-birds further enrich the view as they can be seen from the baths.
Experiencing the Sea Life
If you love to explore sea life, GeoSea is a perfect location for you. Playful Humpback whales are spotted here quite often along with Minke whales. Pretty white-beaked dolphins and Orcas are some of the species frequently found here. You would be amazed to know that the biggest animal on earth, the Blue whale, is also found regularly on the Skjálfandaflói bay. Iceland is one of the only two locations in Europe, where the Blue whale comes so near to the coast. It has been spotted here on Skjálfandaflói bay since 2004. Everyone visiting the sea baths can enjoy whale watching from the great balcony view of the bay. The experience is rejuvenating.
Two boreholes in the area contribute to the waters of the geothermal seawater. The temperature of the water is around 38-39° C with constant water flow. The water at Geosea is known for being rich in minerals. It is considered beneficial for the skin. Specifically, those with skin diseases should consider having a dip. You can have a view of the geothermal waterfall from the edge of the cape in front of the sea baths. The view is mesmerizing but you must be careful at the very edge of the cliff.
At the Magical GeoSea
The opening hours are different for different seasons. If you visit in winter, from September to April, the timings are 17:00 – 22:00 on weekdays. While on weekends, the sea bath opens from 12:00-22:00. The timings are extended in summers. If you go from May to August, the timings are 12:00-22:00. Guests can enjoy the soothing baths until 9:45 pm. You do not have to worry about changing clothes and resting a bit. 160 guests can use the changing rooms, at a time. There are lockers available to put your belongings and valuables. You can also leave your valuables in the reception.
Proper hygiene is maintained at the Geosea. All guests are required to take a shower and wash thoroughly before making their way to the baths. The visitors are provided with soap, shampoo, and conditioner. You can pamper yourself with refreshing beverages. This is an ideal place to relax and enjoy, leaving all worries behind.
