Íráfoss is located on the south coast of Iceland. The south coast is one of the most popular travel routes in Iceland, but somehow most travelers miss out on this beautiful waterfall. The waterfall is located close to some other beautiful and well known waterfalls like Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. The Ira river originating from Eyjafjallajökull glacier provides water to three big waterfalls and a few smaller ones. The first one is 135 feet tall Irafoss waterfall. The waterfall descending from the basaltic canyon adds a unique geological adornment to the landscape. From the top of the waterfall, you may be able to see another unknown waterfalls.

The waterfall is visible from Ring Road 1. It may not seem like a big waterfall from the highway, but once you get close to it you will see how beautiful it is. To reach here, you need to hike through a mystical gorge. The hike is not hard but there is no specific trail that will lead you to the waterfall. Another way to reach the waterfall is going on a horse-ride. Riding an Icelandic horse is just another adventure, isn’t it? You will find many guided horse riding tours around the area.

How to Reach Íráfoss waterfall?

While driving on Route 1 you will drive through the town of Hvolsvöllur and past Seljalandsfoss. Keep driving along the ring road for around 10 minutes until you reach Route 246 to your left. While driving on this route you will pass many private farms, and you will see a bridge over the stream. From the bridge, Íráfoss waterfall becomes visible.
